Transfer Station

Overview

The Town of West Yellowstone does not provide refuse services.  At this time refuse services in the area are provided by L & L Site Services or Republic Services.

West Yellowstone residents and businesses may utilize a Gallatin County transfer station locate 4 miles north of town off Highway 191.  In 1970 West Yellowstone began to think about closing its landfill.  By 1983 the landfill was capped and the transfer station was built next to it.  The 13 acre compound was designed to handle approximately 1,500 tons of waste per year from the Town of West Yellowstone, Yellowstone National Park and the surrounding Hebgen Basin region.  The approximation currently is close to 6,000 tons per year.

In 1997 “The Greening of Yellowstone” was implemented and plans for a compost facility began to develop.  By 2003 the West Yellowstone compost facility opened to the public and composting began.

Hours

Summer (May 1st – October 31st):
Monday-Friday 8am-4pm; Saturday 9am-1pm
Winter (November 1st-April 30th):
Monday and Wednesday 12pm-4pm; Saturday 9am-1pm

Additional Informaiton

The station also supports recycling.  At no additional charge your newspapers, plastics,  refillable camping propane canisters and more can be disposed of appropriately.  Visit the local station for details and specifics.
