Frequently Asked Questions

The Town of West Yellowstone Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department oversees and maintains the designated park areas in Town, the Historic District and historical structures, as well as a year around recreation programs.

HERITAGE PARK

The Historic District and the Center of Downtown

Located on Yellowstone Ave., between cross streets Canyon and Electric. This four block area encompasses the main structures build by the Union Pacific Railroad between 1909 and 1929, as well as the railroad right-of-way. This property was donated by the Union Pacific Railroad to the Town of West Yellowstone in 1966. Union Pacific Dinning Lodge and encompassing building has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since April of 1983.

Since the donation in 1966 the various buildings have been converted into, the Union Pacific Dining Lodge Convention Center, The Yellowstone Museum, the West Yellowstone Clinic and the West Yellowstone Court House.

In the 1980’s, the International Fly Fishing Federation constructed a fly-casting pond, which is still available for use.

PIONEER PARK

A green space for community events and relation for residents and visitors.

Located on the corner of HWY 191 and HWY 20, this six acre park is in the center of town. Facilities include; one improve and one unimproved baseball diamond, soccer nets, playground equipment, basketball court, picnic shelters, BBQ grills, bathrooms and water. Pioneer Park hosts Music in the Park, our summer concert series, car shows and other city wide events.

 

DUNBAR PARK

A Wayside Picnic Area at the Entrance to Yellowstone Park.

Located on Boundary St and Yellowstone Ave; at the eastern edge of the historic district, the park is the location of a monument that recognizes the area as the eastern terminus of the Oregon Short Line Railroad.

Facilities include picnic tables, ample parking. Bathrooms and water located at the Chamber of Commerce; adjacent to the park.

 

ELECTRIC STREET PARK

A Place for Basketball & Tennis.

This park is located on Electric St. between Washburn Circle and Lewis Avenue. Facilities include; basketball court and two tennis courts.

 

THE LINEAR PARK

A residential park for biking and walking.

Located in the Madison Addition running from Delacy Avenue to Hayden/Electric Street; the natural appearance of the park, with it s simple footbridges and natural vegetation, lends to its low-demand maintenance. No Facilities are available.
